Catherine C. - Senior Data Manager
“Major laboratories are increasingly turning to outsourcing services for their clinical trials, a trend that is particularly evident when it comes to software expertise. Aixial now has teams in most of the leading international labs. The network formed by these teams serves as a solid base for the company’s development.”
Could you describe your career and how it developed?
At the moment I am in charge of data management for a clinical trial that involves over 4,000 patients. I find all aspects of the job really fascinating, from the choice and development of the software tools, to the setting up and follow through of the study. I serve as the link between the technological resources and the study’s real requirements, between the IT experts and the clinical teams.
I was always drawn by the medical world. After having started at the bottom of the ladder by working in data capture in a software engineering company, I now have over 10 years of experience in the field and am able to bring a global view to each of my missions.
Why did you decide to join Aixial?
I initially made contact with Aixial through my professional network; it is the third company I have worked for. What I liked about it immediately: how quickly the interviews with the company’s management were set up, the close relationships that were established, the young and friendly atmosphere and, above all, the opportunity it gave me to evolve. I have been on assignment in a one of the leading international laboratories for the last 2 ½ years, with management responsibilities that have significantly advanced my career.
I continue to be motivated by the ongoing contact I have with others, and the highly responsive nature of the administrative follow up, notably in the setting up of individualized training programs. Finally, my salary is commensurate with my responsibilities as well as the success of my missions.
What do you see as the major trends in biometrics?
Biometrics are needed in the clinical trial development phase with human. It takes an average of 10 years to develop a new molecule and a patent is valid for only 20 years. There is considerable pressure to boost efficiency and save time in the various phases of clinical research. Right now, this means developing digital solutions that streamline data collection and processing. Even though the mix of paper and digital data still applies, in particular for organizations in non-industrialized countries, digital data capture is becoming widespread in North America and to a lesser extent in Europe. Medical practitioners enter the data on a secured Extranet site that has been programmed to reduce the number of typos and other possible errors. This enhanced readability of the results and increased productivity are powerful arguments for adopting software systems.
My career is also rapidly moving towards the job of coordinating the training of the medical teams and the different actors in the project.
In your view, what are and will be the company’s keys to success?
The development of its teams’ skills through the quality and range of technical and management training programs. The priority of recruiting seniors on a market that is constantly on the look-out for exceptional talents.
The creation of a CRO in biometrics will be a real asset for Aixial and allow it to capitalize on its expertise. Our project management methodologies are well recognized by our customers.
